Chapter - 4 - EXERCISE 4.6 - Playing with Numbers (NCERT Class 6th Maths Solution)

1. From the figure, identify :
(a) the center of circle                         (b) three radii
(c) a diameter                                      (d) a chord
(e) two points in the interior              (f) a point in the exterior
(g) a sector                                           (h) a segment

Solution/Explanation:

(a) O is the centre.                                           (b) Three radii: OA, OB and OC
(c) A diameter: AC                                           (d) A chord: ED
(e) Interior points: O, P                                   (f) Exterior point: Q
(g) A sector: OAB                                           (h) A segment: ED

2. (a) Is every diameter of a circle also a chord?
    (b) Is every chord of a circle also a diameter?

Solution/Explanation:

Chord is a line that joins any two points on the circle.... But diameter is the line that passes through the centre of the circle joining any two points on the circle.
So every chord of a circle is not the diameter but a diameter is the longest chord of the circle.

3. Draw any circle and mark
(a) its centre                                      (b) a radius
(c) a diameter                                   (d) a sector
(e) a segment                                    (f) a point in its interior
(g) a point in its exterior                (h) an arc

Solution/Explanation:

In the above drawn circle
    (a) O is the centre of the circle.
    (b) OR is a radius of the circle.
    (c) PQ is a diameter of the circle.
    (d) Shaded region OSQ is a sector of the circle.
    (e) Shaded region ABC is a  segment of the circle.
    (f) K is a point in interior of the circle.
    (g) L is a point in exterior of the circle.
    (h) UV is an arc of the circel.

4. Say true or false :
(a) Two diameters of a circle will necessarily intersect.
(b) The centre of a circle is always in its interior.

Solution/Explanation:
(a)Two diameters of a circle will necessarily intersect - True.
(b) The centre of a circle is always in its interior-  True.
